Conceptualized by award-winning Toronto artist, Gordon Shadrach, Dis/Mantle was a 2022 exhibit of various installations exploring the theme of decolonizing spaces.
Shadrach contracted us to design one segment of the exhibit which revisited racist food product packaging of yesteryear.
We first turned a sketch of Trinidadian-Canadian celebrity chef Roger Mooking (whose own culinary installation was presented as part of Dis/Mantle’s opening nights’ programmes) into a logo illustration. Shadrach notably required us to design “dignified” vintage can label designs – baring the logo illustration – for various Afro-Caribbean food staples, as well as branded cards of Caribbean recipes by Mooking.
